Tasting note
Juicy, alluring Condrieu, perfumed with pineapple, hay and herbs and flavoured with bananas and cream, all held in check by lively acidity.
Viticulture
La Petite Côte comes from south and southeast-facing terraced vineyards above Chavanay on muscovite-rich granite soils. High-density plantings encourage quality, while sustainable practices include no insecticides or pesticides, minimal treatments, organic fertiliser and careful canopy and yield management to optimise ripening.
Vinification
The grapes for all of Cuilleron's Condrieu's are harvested by hand, and when you see the precipitous slopes of the appellation you can see why. All the wines are fermented in French oak barrels. A portion of the wine is then aged in oak while the remainder is transferred to tank to await the blending.
Food Match
Roast loin of pork with apple-onion chutney, coconut-lime fish with peanut sauce or boiled lobsters with tarragon butter make for a palate pleasing combination.
