Tasting note
Juicy, alluring Condrieu, perfumed with pineapple, hay and herbs and flavoured with bananas and cream, all held in check by lively acidity.
Viticulture
The vineyards, planted on south/southeast-facing terraces overlooking Chavanay, rest on muscovite-rich granite soils. “La Petite Côte” is a cuvée name, not a district. Vines are densely planted (8,000–10,000/ha), farmed without insecticides or pesticides, using minimal organic fertiliser, with strict yield control and green harvesting for ideal ripeness.
Vinification
The grapes for all of Cuilleron's Condrieu's are harvested by hand, and when you see the precipitous slopes of the appellation you can see why. All the wines are fermented in French oak barrels. A portion of the wine is then aged in oak while the remainder is transferred to tank to await the blending.
Food Match
Roast loin of pork with apple-onion chutney, coconut-lime fish with peanut sauce or boiled lobsters with tarragon butter make for a palate pleasing combination.
