Tasting note
Concentrated, off-dry Riesling that's buzzing with lime, fragrant with acacia flowers and with a long, honeyed finish.
Viticulture
Grapes are harvested by hand from vineyards in Nahe, the climate of this wonderfully fertile region is ideal for growing expressive Riesling. The sloping vineyards face South at an altitude of 160-190 metres above sea level. The vines average 35 years old; they are planted at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare with yields of around 55hl/ha.
Vinification
Grapes are hand sorted, destemmed and given 4-8 hours’ skin contact before pneumatic pressing. Vineyard parcels ferment separately in stainless steel with wild and cultured yeasts for 40 days at 12-15°C, then are blended. The wine ages on lees for 6-12 weeks, with malolactic and oak contact avoided to preserve varietal character.
Food Match
A truly noble variety and one that is surprisingly adaptable to many different styles of food ranging from fish to poultry.
