Tasting note
Tasting note. Light red Gamay from Touraine in the Loire, fresh and fruity, oozing red cherries and cranberries and toughened up by a hit of flint.
Vineyard
The sandy soils of Sologne in the Loire valley are perfectly suited to producing grapes that make exceptionally fruity wines. Sandy soils heat up quickly in the spring time and allow us to reach perfect maturity at harvest while remaining free draining. The clay subsoil retains water which prevents hydric stress.
Viticulture
Densely planted in the 1940's, grass is grown between the rows and the old Gamay vines are tightly pruned to limit yield. Grapes are picked by hand and sorted before vinification to ensure only perfect bunches are selected.
Vinification
A combination of carbonic maceration and traditional fermentation gives a light red that has struture and balance. A further 5 months ageing in stainless steel tanks adds complexity and elegance.
