Tasting note
Remarkably balanced Viognier from South Africa, perfumed with jasmine and frangipani with a spoonful of kiwi, melting into rich apricot and quince flavours in the mouth.
Viticulture
Kleinood, meaning “something small and precious” in Afrikaans, is the De Villiers family’s 10ha vineyard. Sustainably farmed, it is fully off-grid, using solar power and botanical water recycling while supporting local biodiversity and communities. Viognier was hand-picked over four dates for flavour depth; Roussanne on 14 February.
Vinification
Viognier and Roussanne were hand-sorted, de-stemmed and pressed. Juice settled overnight before a 20-day indigenous yeast fermentation at 15°C. Roussanne was barrel fermented. Viognier was fermented in French oak (30%), stainless steel (45%) and concrete egg (25%). The blend was stirred weekly for four weeks.
Food Match
