Tasting note
A Tuscan red packed with cherries and raspberries, finishing with a perfumed note of spice.
Viticulture
Montalcino, an ancient and fascinating Sienese village of Etruscan origin, lies amongst a forest of oak trees at an altitude of 600m. On a hill at the border of this region, named Poggio del Sasso – or ‘pebbles peak’ – Sangiovese grapes perform particularly well for the winegrowers of Da Vinci, and nowhere is it better exemplified than in their Brunito Rosso
Vinification
Parcels of Sangiovese and Merlot are picked separately but crushed together, after which they are pressed and then macerated on skins for 8-10 days. The juice was fermented at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C with frequent and gentle pumping over, extracting a good amount of colour and tannin & giving the wine great structure.
Food Match
A blend of fruitiness and spice makes this the perfect accompaniment to game dishes. Try a vension pie with dried cranberries, or a duck ragu with five spice.
