Furmint

Best known as the backbone of Tokaji, Furmint produces both dry and sweet wines of exceptional character. High in acidity, it delivers green apple, citrus, and smoky minerality in dry styles, while botrytized versions develop apricot, honey, and saffron richness. Its razor-sharp structure allows for long aging, evolving into layered, nutty complexity. Hungary remains its spiritual home, though some dry expressions now rival fine Rieslings in their tension and depth. A natural partner for foie gras and blue cheese in sweet form, or seafood and poultry when dry, Furmint is a grape of striking versatility and pedigree.
