Tasting note
Cool-climate Pinot Noir from Chile's Leyda Valley, with a bouquet of blueberries and strawberries, plus herbs and a sprinkling of fresh, moist earth in the mouth.
Vineyard
After an extensive search, we found an exceptional place in the coastal valley of Leyda, just 4 km from the Pacific Ocean, where we make wines with identity. We are pioneers and experts in the exclusive Leyda Valley, which covers just 2,000 hectares. Its cool climate, influenced by the Humboldt Current during spring and at the time of grape ripening, together with sea breezes, makes this valley ideal for growing aromatic white and red grape varieties, such as Pinot Noir.
Viticulture
Each plot and clone was separately harvested by hand and the grapes put into 500-kilo bins. Once the grapes had arrived at the winery, they were destemmed and gently crushed, then put into stainless steel tanks. The grapes were then cold-macerated at 10°C for 3 days in order to enhance the fruit intensity.
Vinification
The must was fermented with selected yeasts at 24°-25°C for 12 days. During this, 2 to 3 gentle pump-overs took place each day to retain the fruity flavour, juiciness and smooth texture. Finally, wine was devatted and 25% was aged in French oak barrels for 6 months, while the remaining 75% was kept in stainless steel tanks to retain the fresh, fruity profile
