Tasting note
Deep ruby in colour, with ripe blackberry and red cherry aromas, layered with violet, Mediterranean herbs, spice and subtle balsamic notes. The palate is generous and textured, with ripe, polished tannins, balanced freshness and a savoury depth, finishing long with dark fruit and gentle spice.
Viticulture
Grown in the warm, maritime terroir of Puglia around Taranto, where sandy soils, Mediterranean sunshine and cooling sea breezes shape the fruit. Careful vineyard management allows Susumaniello to develop ripe, concentrated flavours while retaining freshness and the savoury character of its coastal origins.
Vinification
The hand-harvested grapes are destemmed and undergo a short pre-fermentation maceration at 12-14°C to preserve aromatic character. Fermentation follows for 15-20 days at 24-26°C, before malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for around six months in large oak, developing depth and polished tannins.
Food Match
Ideal with traditional Puglian cuisine, like orecchiette and broccoli rabe, and pork chops in sauce.
