The 2019 Grand Cru Schlossberg Riesling opens with a clear and elegant, sightly flinty or smoky bouquet with finely concentrated bright fruit aromas. Round and juicy, this is a supple, silky and elegant Schlossberg Riesling with delicate bitters on the finish. Bone dry. Drink 2027-2040.
Viticulture
Grand Cru Schlossberg in Kientzheim lies in the Weiss Valley. Our 1.8 ha plot is planted in horizontal terraces of 2–3 rows, just above Schlossberg Castle and below the forest. Vines are 40+ years old. Shallow, mineral-rich soils with low water retention sit over magmatite granite bedrock. Full south-facing exposure.
Vinification
The wine is not oak-aged, and is vinified to complete dryness with no residual sugar. Bottling is done early to preserve freshness, and the wine rests in bottle in the cellar for several years before being released ensuring the wine is both ready to drink upon release but also can be cellared.
Food Match
Perfect with seafood and fine fish grilled, buttered or crudo like sea bream. Try with langoustine, fennel and citrus, turbot with leeks and Hollandaise, or roast chicken with olive oil potatoes, sumac, rosemary and thyme.
