Tasting note
Bright medium gold with aromas of fresh apricot, honey and caraway seed. Dense and silky, with a superb harmonious acidity giving outstanding balance. Selection de Grains Nobles is a dessert wine, but being so rare it is often enjoyed on its own.
In the press
94/100 - A dense and layered SGN gewurz with dried-pineapple, honey, spice and smoke aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and medium sweet. Fruity, tight and very focused. Wonderful finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Viticulture
Trimbach’s Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles is a rare wine, produced only in exceptional years when noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) develops. Grapes come from 40+ year-old vines in Ribeauvillé’s Trottacker and Hunawihr’s Muehlforst vineyards, on marl-limestone soils facing south and southeast.
Vinification
Grapes carefully selected after several pickings in vineyards where botrytis develops well. Vinified in stainless steel vats or old casks, the alcoholic fermentation is stopped when the sugar/acid balance is reached and the aromatic potential of the wine is at its peak. Bottling in the middle of the following year and ageing for min 4 yrs in our cellars.
Food Match
With this aromatic richness, this wine will be perfect for aperitif, with foie gras, soft cheeses such as Epoisses, Chaource or dessert made of fruits such as Tarte Citron Meringuée
