Tasting note
Vibrant magenta with purple hues. A distinct ferrous character on the nose, with Szechuan pepper, brambly wild red and black fruits with a subtle violet lift. The palate is medium bodied with characteristic plums, spice and iron filings. Beautiful poise with lithe tannins and a fine boned structural finish.
Viticulture
Mourvèdre from dry-grown bush vines on the rich gravelly-loam soils of our Swinney Wilson’s Pool vineyard. Careful canopy management, fruit thinning and selective hand harvesting over multiple passes, all ensure we achieve as close to perfect fruit as possible.
Vinification
Hand-picked at peak ripeness, the grapes were berry-sorted into a tank via gravity. Featuring 22% whole bunches and wild fermentation, it spent 11 days on skins before pressing to seasoned French oak. Aged 11 months on lees, it has minimal sulfites, is unfined and lightly filtered.
