In the press
The only other winemaking note is that there is a mighty 8% new oak used here! From this moment onwards this wine is all about the fruit and I have tasted nothing like it, at least made from Grenache. The insanely mineral palate reminds me of elite Nebbiolo, visceral, elemental Pinot Noir, majestic Baga and other red grapes which celebrate bitterness! There are clearly insane vibrations emanating from the soil here which make this fruit so damned toned. The flavour silhouette is slender, athletic, toned and immensely powerful and yet the flavour is gentle, caressing, magical and life-fulfilling. It is a near-perfect wine. 19.5/20 (drink 2022 – 2032) Matthew Jukes
More intense and luscious than the regular Swinney Grenache. The fruit, the whole fruit and almost nothing but the fruit. A really gorgeous wine that's not like any other Grenache or Garnacha I have come across – presumably a terroir expression.
Viticulture
Discover 'Farvie' vineyards atop ironstone hills by Frankland River. Its distinct ferrous character reflects finest quality. Passionate about bush vine viticulture, Swinney nurtures site-specific, labor-intensive vines for exceptional fruit. Hand-crafted dedication yields rewarding results.
Vinification
Farvie Grenache: Bush vine perfection from Frankland River. Hand-harvested for optimal ripeness. Co-fermented with 6% Mourvèdre for fragrance and complexity. Spontaneous fermentation, 11 months in French oak. Minimal additives, pure expression.
Food Match
Opulent yet elegant, intensely explosive yet precise. Pair with BBQ veggies, grilled portobello mushrooms, and halloumi. Also, enjoy with game dishes like duck, goose, guineafowl, or pheasant alongside honey-roasted carrots and parsnips.
