Tasting note
Vibrant cool-climate Chardonnay from Tasmania, aromatic with lemon zest, flint and hazelnut, with a soft note of lemon curd on the tongue.
Viticulture
This first Stargazer Chardonnay uses exceptional fruit from two renowned Tasmanian sites: Marion’s Vineyard in the Tamar Valley, planted in 1980 overlooking the river, and Gerald Ellis’s Meadowbank Vineyard in the Derwent Valley, planted in 1987. Both cane-pruned sites produced outstanding grapes.
Vinification
Handpicked and whole bunch pressed to one, two and three year old French oak puncheons for fermentation by indigenous yeast. Post primary ferment, there was partial MLF but no lees stirring. The wine spent eight months in oak and two months in tank prior to bottling.
Food Match
The vibrancy of this wine would be perfect with the freshness of a salmon gravlax or salmon sashimi.
