Tasting note
This has the wonderful, hedgerow fruit and savoury notes of a Cote de Beaune red Burgundy: rosehip, crab apple, medlar and sloe, with savoury hints of leather and roast lamb. In the mouth, both succulently fruity and completely dry, it has a nip of decidedly Burgundian tannin, masses of complex, dried herb, cured meat, truffle and dried mushroom notes, and fabulous palate length.
In the press
94/100 - Another exciting pinot noir from San Pedro that's one of the best from Chile. Iron, grapefruit, red berries, fine herbs and minerals on the nose. Tight and nicely austere, with a medium to full body and a very chewy finish. I love the tightness of the tannins. Drink from 2026.
Vinification
From the cool Malleco Valley, 700km (450 miles) south of Santiago, from vineyards owned by the Buchahueico community and made by Leyda's legendary winemaker, Viviana Navarrete. Grapes are hand-harvested into 15kg bins and transported at 5°C to preserve freshness prior to vinification.
Food Match
Mushroom risotto, pumpkin ravioli with hints of lavender, lean duck breast + smoked mashed potatoes.
