Tasting note
This intense Shiraz displays notes of black cherry, dark chocolate, cedar and eucalyptus. It is succulent in texture, with super-soft tannins, full body and a rich, warm, comforting personality. There's a lingering, chocolatey note on the finish. This is absolutely ready to drink - enjoy now and over the next 2-3 years.
In the press
Rojomoma's Wild Scarlet Shiraz leverages Sam Kurtz's intuitive winemaking into creating an affordable, estate-level creation, but with a couple of his trademark flourishes that you expect to find on his more expensive wines. While this wine is ripe, glossy and pure, with an actively forward air, there is an impressive degree of complexity, which has been tempered so as not to slow the wine down, beneath the bonnet. This means that while this is a precocious Shiraz, it sacrifices nothing in length or amplitude of fruit flavours, resulting in a grand vin framework with immediate drinking flavours.
Viticulture
Handpicked fruit from hand pruned vines located in the hamlet of Ebeneezer in the north of the Barossa Valley. These Shiraz vines are 20 years old.
Vinification
Handpicked fruit from vines located in the hamlet of Ebenezer in the north of the Barossa Valley. These Shiraz vines are 20 years old. Fermentation is intitiated with indigenous yeast in open vats, before gentle basket-pressing. Following fermentation, the wine is matured in seasoned French oak.
Food Match
Wild Scarlet Shiraz is a great match for rich tomato based dishes, vegetarian pasta or a lamb ragu.
