Tasting note
Tinta Roriz is what the Portuguese call Tempranillo and this is a dark, slightly spicy expression of that grape, packed with cherries and sweet plums and furled in a cloud of woodsmoke.
Viticulture
The terraces are on classic schist soil. Vines are 34 years old and the aspect is south/east.
Vinification
Grapes from Quinta do Crasto’s finest Tinta Roriz plot were hand-harvested in 22kg boxes, carefully sorted, foot-trodden in traditional stone lagares, then fermented for 10 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with robotic cap management. Gently pressed and aged 18 months in new 225L French oak barrels.
