Tasting note
Intense aromas of citrus and tropical fruit plus a delicate hint of orange blossom, followed by a vibrant, energising lemon acidity.
Viticulture
This wine is named after Douro Superior (Upper Douro), where the grapes are grown at Quinta da Cabreira. The estate has 114 hectares of vineyards planted on schist and granite soils using hillside rows and terrace systems. Facing east and north, the vines are around 18 years old, producing fruit that reflects the region's unique terroir.
Vinification
Douro Superior grapes are boxed, inspected, destemmed and pressed. The must decanted for 48 hours at 8°C before fermenting in stainless steel, then French oak for 45 days at 14°C. The wine is aged 6 months in 50% new and 50% used French Oak barrels, of which 15% have acacia heads. The barrels are then rotated on rollers for oxygen-free lees stirring.
Food Match
Try with roast venison, or with a hard goats cheese. Excellent with roast chicken or fish pie
