Tasting note
Named for a pretty, purple Sicilian flower, this is a pretty, purple wine, its aromas of ripe plums, wild blackberries and jasmine surpassed in the mouth by chocolate, forest floor and black truffle.
Viticulture
Plumbago is a single-varietal Nero d’Avola named after the purple wildflower that grows around the Ulmo estate. Sourced from an old vineyard near Lake Arancio, it offers soft fruit flavours, rounded tannins and well-integrated oak. An approachable, enjoyable wine that pairs beautifully with Mediterranean vegetable dishes and a wide range of meats.
Vinification
Ripasso is a traditional Valpolicella winemaking method unique to the region. Fresh Valpolicella wine is re-fermented on the grape skins left from Amarone or Recioto after racking. This contact with the partially fermented pomace enhances smoothness, complexity, structure and body, producing a richer, more rounded wine.
Food Match
Perfect for matching with grilled meat with its affinity for smokey tones and its natural sweetness which goes with any sauce.
