Tasting note
The nose shows initial notes of blackberry and tar then as the wine opens up, we see violets, dried rose petals and subtle earthy undertones. The palate is full and generous. The tar flavours continue as fresh raspberries fill your mouth, followed by red currants and star anise. The finish is long with hints of dark chocolate and powerful tannins which linger.
Vineyard
Grapes for our La Volpe Nebbiolo are selected from areas of our vineyard that naturally produce softer, elegant, floral styles of Nebbiolo
Viticulture
The season began wet and cold like recent years, suggesting a tough vintage ahead. But the rain eased, and warm, dry weather followed. Summer brought ideal grape-growing conditions with mornings around 15°C and afternoons peaking at 30°C. This vintage promises excellent wines for now and long-term aging.
Vinification
This Nebbiolo comes from a vineyard known for floral rose and violet notes with medium tannins. About 5% whole bunches were hand-harvested and placed in open fermenters to enhance elegance. The rest was crushed, fermented for five days, then pressed and aged in old large barrels to preserve varietal character.
