Tasting note
Chardonnay from a superstar vineyard in Carneros, California, aromatic and full of flavour, the sharpness of green apple balanced with the softness of butter cookies, while on the nose, white flowers, honey, orange peel and toasted almond sing in harmony.
In the press
The 2018 vintage is elegant, yet powerful and displays classic Hyde Vineyard traits of delicate white flowers, tangerine zest, and lemon cream. On the palate the wine is citrus-driven with orange and lemon flavors along with hints of toasted almond and vanilla. The wine has great acidity that leaves a white chalk/mineral note on the very long finish.
Viticulture
Hyde Vineyard, a Carneros superstar, boasts Hyde-Wente Chardonnay and Hyde-Calera Pinot Noir. Renowned for low yields due to tiny berries. Coveted in California's vineyard hierarchy. Sustainably cultivated.
Vinification
The Chardonnay fruit is whole-cluster pressed with indigenous yeast fermentations. them the wine is aged Sur lie aged with weekly stirring then 100% is malo-lactic fermentation in barrel in Burgundian French oak barrels (40% new; 60% 1-2-year old) . Bottled without filtration to preserve the wine’s aromas and flavors and enhance aging potential.
