Tasting note

Very dark ruby-red in colour, Gaudium is notable for its intense complexity and depth. Full-bodied, it brims with layers of rich fruit and subtle minerals, while boasting ripe black plums and touches of thyme, as well as balsamic notes that enrich a lengthy and refined finish of great complexity.

In the press

95/100 - Gaudium is a Rioja that wouldn’t look out of place in a line-up of crus classés Bordeaux. Deftly pairing Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, it's a Rioja-meets-Pauillac kind of wine, with considerable concentration from low yields, classic mocha and toast aromas, plush tannins, impressive acidity, flavours of dark chocolate, blackberry and damson and a spine of firm, well-integrated tannins. 2028-38
Tim Atkin MW, Rioja Special Report 2025
94/100 - Sourced from numerous plots at 400m-650m in Rioja Alta and on terraces up to 740m in Rioja Alavesa, with old vines more than 70 years old and some pre-phylloxera more than 100 years old. All Tempranillo, fermentation with indigenous yeast occured in small stainless steel tanks and wooden vats, malolactic in French oak barrels, then a minimum of 18 months' ageing in medium-toast, new barrels of fine-grained French oak. Alluring smokiness on the nose. Intense savoury and spicy lining to the tannins. Plum, prune, pomegranate are sprinkled generously with nutmeg, cardamom and pink pepper. Great assertiveness and drive throughout with freshness at the core. Long, spicy finish with a grippy allure. Drink 2025-2038.
