Tasting note
Creamy white from southern Burgundy, freshened by lemon and grapefruit, with a soft hint of peach and a scattering of uplifting saltiness.
Viticulture
The Mâcon-Lugny appellation lies in southern Burgundy. Les Crays vineyard in Saint-Gengoux-de-Scissé sits 300 m high, west-facing for freshness in this warm area. Its Jurassic clay and chalk soils suit Chardonnay perfectly. The name “Crays,” from Celtic cracos (“stony hill”), reflects the stony slopes typical of Burgundy’s finest terroirs.
Vinification
Pressing is very slow to preserve the fruit, and juices from the final pressings are not retained. The wine is aged in stainless steel vats for 6 to 8 months. Throughout ageing, all decisions follow careful tastings and analysis, ensuring each Joseph Drouhin wine reflects its terroir and vintage character.
Food Match
It can be served with summer salads, raw or grilled fish, tempura, roast chicken, vegetable and prawn stir fry or goat's cheese.
