Tasting note
Silky Premier Cru Burgundy, perfumed with violets and damp earth, the mouth a bowlful of black cherries.
Viticulture
In the heart of the Côte de Nuits lies one of Domaine Joseph Drouhin’s gems just 1.5 acres on clay and limestone soils, with vines averaging 49 years. “Amoureuses” means “lovers,” as many fall in love with this wine’s charm. Often described as “a wine with love,” it rivals the elegance and acclaim of its Grand Cru neighbor, Musigny.
Vinification
Harvested by hand in small open crates to preserve the fruit’s integrity. Grapes are hand-sorted in the vineyard and winery. Maceration and vinification of free-run juice take 2–3 weeks with indigenous yeasts, temperature controlled. Daily pigeage early, then remontage until fermentation ends.
Food Match
This wine makes a great match with porcini mushroom stroganoff, roasted game and roast pork with herbs and fennel.
