Tasting note
Lively, fresh and beguiling, with Tuscan Vermentino's easy charm, it has further layers of richness that sets it apart as a particularly special wine. On the palate, orange blossom honey, elderflower, apricot purée and lemon sorbet. Beautifully sumptuous, rounded texture, with a brisk, briny brightness that attests to its island origin.
In the press
97/100 - Aromas of seashells, salt, stones, lemons and hints of melon. It’s medium-bodied with a lovely presence and finesse, with subtle mango and lychee fruit. A rare wine from the island of Gorgona off the Tuscan coast, which is a maximum security prison. Unique on so many levels. Drink or hold.
Viticulture
Grapes sourced from a 2ha organic vineyard on the prison island of Gorgona.
Vinification
Vinified by prisoners on the only penal island in Europe, Gorgona. Overseen by Frescobaldi. A temperature controlled ferment in stainless steel champions varietal freshness, capturing the herbal qualities of the local herbs growing amongst the vines. MLF was avoided to preserve freshness. Wine was aged in Stainless steel and barrique for circa 7 months.
Food Match
Versatile. Pair with fish, seafood, poultry, pork, game bird. Also works well with tomato-based dishes and vegetables, especially grilled.
