Tasting note
Pinot Noir with a leavening dash of Mourvèdre from Victoria, south-east Australia, delivering baskets of cherry and strawberry to the mouth, complemented by bracken, fresh earth and a touch of oak on the nose.
Vineyard
Fowles vineyard composes of 300 acres of vines nestled in the beautiful Strathbogie Ranges, located 90 minutes North of Melbourne, Victoria. The Strathbogie vineyards are peppered with massive ancient granite boulders, at elevations between 430 and 550 metres above sea level. The Strathbogies is overall a cool climate but with warm days and cool nights. There is a constant wine whistle through the vines reducing the risk of frost damage in early spring and mildew in the summer.
Viticulture
Despite mild conditions throughout the season 2023 delivered premium balanced fruit with excellent acidity, high concentration of colour and expressive aromatics. The even ripening ensured lovely varietal expression of Pinot Noir with concentrated flavours of strawberry, cherry and rhubarb.
Vinification
Made from Pinot Noir fruit sourced from our Strathbogie Bill's vineyard, this wine was crushed and fermented with a Premier Cru yeast selected to enhance forest fruits, spices and aromatic herb notes. The wine was matured in predominantly old oak puncheons for 12 months for a robust mouthfeel.
