Tasting note
Substantial, complex red wine from Priorat, the Catalonia powerhouse, with a lattice of fine tannin supporting dark berries, herbs and a finishing flourish of spice.
Viticulture
Franck Massard learnt his trade with the Torres family before starting his own venture in Priorat in 2004. This wine comes from Pobaleda on the famous "licorella" slate soils and is managed organically. Grape yields are low at barely 1kg per vine. Following hand picking they are taken to the cellar in small crates to keep the fruit in pristine condition.
Vinification
His signature wine, a "huella" is a fingerprint with Franck's shown on the label. An elegant wine from Priorat, it’s made with 60% Cariñena and 40% Garnacha, fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel before oak maturation. The wine is aged for 12 months with 20% ageing in new French oak barrels of 500L and 80% in second and third use 225L barrels.
