Tasting note

Heady aromas of florals and autumn leaves with flavours of wild strawberries, dark cherries and pips, chinotto, Middle Eastern spices and some poached rhubarb, too. The medium-bodied palate is evenly poised, laden with filigree tannins (lots of them) and energising acidity; oak (25% new) completely integrated.

In the press

The 2024 Balnarring Pinot Noir is perfumed and fragrant and quite different in character compared to the 2023 tasted alongside. Where the former was powerful, structural and condensed, this is floral, perfumed and fresh. I love the way this wine performs. There is levity here and minerality too. The tannins are structural and chalky through the long finish. This is very good. It doesn't break stride at any point. Drink 2025-2039. 96/100.

Unique Selling Point

One of the most talked-about new vineyard projects in Australia. Ultra-high density plantings, volcanic soils and a winemaker at the top of his game. Elanto is already being spoken about as a future Mornington icon.

Viticulture

All wines are from our high density vineyard planted to 11,111 vines per hectare. Organic practices are used where possible, herbicides are never used.

Vinification

Fruit is hand picked into 10kg baskets. Fruit is sorted and mostly destemmed ( up to 5% whole bunches is used) to concrete tanks for fermentation without innoculation. Wine was then transferred to barrels and went through MLF in late Spring without innoculation. Bottled after 11 months in barrel.

Food Match

Perfect with duck, mushroom risotto or earthy, umami-rich dishes. Also brilliant alongside a good charcuterie board or aged pinot-friendly cheeses like comté or gruyère.
