Tasting note
From a gravelly plot beside a river, this is a happy marriage of grape varieties and flavours, with spice and herbs, ripe red fruit and a blast of southern sunshine.
Viticulture
Sourced from the single vineyard Bussière (15 ha), the soil consists of gravelly alluvium in Courthézon, near the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards and close to the Ouvèze River. The vines are cultivated without pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides, using only natural manure to preserve soil health. Yields average 50 hl/ha.
Vinification
Hand-harvested grapes are 80% destemmed for fruit purity, followed by 12–15 days of maceration and 12 months of barrel aging (30% new). Annual production is around 80,000 bottles.
Food Match
Roast leg of lamb with mustard and red wine sauce, steak with ham, provone and mushroom sauce or pan-seared filet mignon with roasted potatoes and Merlot sauce will make for a splendid combination.
