Tasting note
The 2023 Pinot Noir is Black Stallion’s first vintage from Santa Lucia Highlands, renowned for layered Pinot Noir. It shows strawberry, blueberry and mocha aromas, with pomegranate, red cherry and cocoa on the palate, soft tannins, plush body, bright acidity and a smooth, lingering finish.
Viticulture
The Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, shaped by a vast submarine canyon, benefits from fog, ocean breezes and sunshine. Its Pinot Noir shows vibrant, concentrated fruit, balancing lively red flavours with darker tones, structured tannins and a rich, rewarding finish.
Vinification
Winemakers monitored each row for ideal harvest timing. Blocks and clones were fermented separately to show site character, with cold soaking, punch-downs or pump-overs guiding extraction. Each individual lot was gently pressed, aged in selected oak, softened by secondary fermentation, then tasted for the final blend.
