Tasting note
A sweet, understated Bordeaux from Margaux in the Médoc, this is stylish and gentle, full of cassis and spring flowers.
In the press
Tight and closed but clearly going to power out of the gate in five or six years. Shows depth and persistency, with precision and balance to the fruit flavours, feels like every base is covered, laced through with liquorice, cinnamon and black chocolate, and although there is power it has a light touch. A delicious wine, long life ahead, note it down for the future.
The brightness and precision already comes through on the nose with floral, blackcurrant character. Full-bodied and very tight and creamy with polished tannins that last for minutes. Warm and intense. Needs four to five years to show all it has, yet already a beauty.
Viticulture
This 32 hectare property is situated on the ancient road between Cantenac and Margaux itself. The lovely chateau is surrounded by and old stone wall, which contains soil unique in Margaux and as a result the wines are atypical for the appellation, being more tannic and full bodied than usual. Age of vines: 22 years.
Vinification
The grapes are all hand picked and then carefully sorted before crushing. A very strict selection is made before blending and the wine is traditionally aged in oak barrels before bottling. Barrel Maturation: 18 months
Food Match
Spicy beef shanks with julienne carrots, provencal lamb with Mediterranean vegetables or hard cheeses are the most suitable pairings.
