Tasting note
From the only vineyard for Kerner, a Riesling cross-breed, in Australia, this has a tangy bouquet of grapefruit and herbs and a mouthful of citrus juice and lemon peel.
Vineyard
The small triangle of Kerner is planted on an ideal east-facing slope. A prevailing breeze here keeps the vineyard dry, which allows for a light-handed approach to disease control. Vineyard GPS: 34° 28' 39" S 139° 4' 11" E
Viticulture
From the revered Fechner bros. vineyard in the Northern Eden Valley (the higher altitude sub-region of the Barossa). The Fechner bros encountered the Riesling cross-breed during a visit to Germany in 2003. This vineyard is adjacent to a Limestone quarry. These vines are all growing through a layer of limestone bedrock, which underpins the aromatic impact.
Vinification
The Kerner is hand picked and whole-bunch pressed to allow for genle skin contact only. Fermentation occurs on gross solids in a temperature controlled inox fermenter using a combination of indiginous and selected yeasts to develop and protect delicate aromas.
Food Match
The texture from this Kerner wants flavour, a snapper curry or a delightful Moroccan Tagine are dream accompaniments.
