Tasting note
Dark violet color with deep purple tones. The nose offers red fruit flavors and ripe, concentrated dark berries with floral notes like violets, some hints of vanilla and tobacco. The mouthfeel is rich, with raspberries and blueberries, and a touch of mocca. soft and well structured tannins with bright, crisp acidity.
Viticulture
La Consulta Vineyard (1095m/3592ft). Alluvial origin. Loamy soil, with rounded rocks on the bottom. 80% Sand - 10 % Clay - 10% Silt.
Vinification
This wine goes through an extensive cold maceration for some grape lots of 2-5 days at less than 50oF (10oC) to extract aromas. The juice is then fermented for around 8-14 days with a total maceration of approximately 3-10 days. Elevage: 11-13 months in 100% French Oak barrel. 15-35% new, second and third use barrels.
