Tasting note
Catena Malbec Appellation Altamira is an elegant, mineral, slightly spicy Malbec with a deep texture and flavours born of the combination of intense sunlight and cool nights. The nose is very complex and expressive, with hints of flowers and ripe fruit (dark berries). Very tasty, with polished and round tannins. Very subtle and savoury finish.
Viticulture
Paraje Altamira Vineyard: alluvial origin. Loamy soil, with rounded rocks on the bottom. 80% Sand, 10% Clay, 10% Silt.
Vinification
This wine goes through an extensive cold maceration for some grape lots of 2-5 days at less than 50oF (10oC) to extract aromas. The juice is then fermented for around 8-14 days with a total maceration of approximately 3-10 days. Ageing for 11-13 months in 100% French Oak barrel: 15-35% new, second and third use barrels.
