Tasting note
A structured yet vibrant expression of old-vine, ungrafted Monastrell from Fuente-Álamo. Ripe black fruits, Mediterranean herbs and crushed stone aromas lead to a concentrated palate defined by fresh acidity, mineral tension and fine tannins. Long, savoury and saline on the finish, reflecting the calcareous soils and cool 2024 vintage.
Viticulture
Matas Altas comes from old, ungrafted vines in Fuente-Álamo, D.O.P. Jumilla, planted at 850–940m. Aged 50–100 years and rooted in calcareous sands, gravels, sandstone, tosca and marl, these high-altitude sites give low yields, concentrated fruit, freshness and mineral tension.
Vinification
Produced from ungrafted old-vine Monastrell and local field-blend varieties, the grapes were hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts. Aged for 12 months in foudres and barrels, with no added SO₂ during élevage. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with just 15 mg/L total SO₂ to preserve purity, texture and vineyard character.
