Bladnoch Distillery

Bladnoch Distillery, founded in 1817 by John and Thomas McClelland, is one of Scotland’s oldest whisky distilleries and the most southerly in the country, located in the picturesque lowlands region of Dumfries and Galloway. The distillery was revitalised in 2015 when it was purchased by Australian entrepreneur David Prior. Under the guidance of Master Distiller Ian MacMillan, Bladnoch has undergone significant investment in its facilities, blending traditional techniques with modern innovations. This new era has positioned Bladnoch as a prominent producer of premium single malt Scotch whisky, honouring its heritage while embracing a forward-thinking approach.

Bladnoch Distillery’s whisky-making process is deeply rooted in tradition, with a fierce focus on quality, craftsmanship and the careful selection of ingredients. The distillery uses water from the River Bladnoch, which plays a crucial role in the character of its whiskies. The production process emphasises long fermentation times and slow distillation, enhancing the complex flavours that define Bladnoch’s whiskies. A distinguishing factor of Bladnoch is its commitment to using a variety of cask types, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak, which contribute to the unique profiles of their expressions. This dedication to diverse maturation techniques allows Bladnoch to produce a range of whiskies with distinctive notes, from light and floral to rich and robust.
