To mark the 30th anniversary of its Chardonnay harvest, Planeta is taking the celebration beyond the vineyard through a meaningful environmental and cultural initiative at the Archaeological Park of Selinunte in Sicily.

The project: “Una passeggiata lunga e magnifica” (“A Long and Magnificent Walk”), creates a new itinerary through the rural landscape of the Archaeological Park, connecting its natural, agricultural and archaeological heritage. The initiative is curated by Professor Giuseppe Barbera and Landscape Architect Tiziana Calvo, with the scientific consultancy of Dr Manlio Speciale, Scientific Consultant to Radicepura Horticultural Park. The project is funded in part by the proceeds from a limited edition of 300 numbered Jéroboam of Chardonnay 2024 “On Fire”, created through a collaboration between Claire Fontaine and Planeta. A limited quantity of these unique bottles is available from our portfolio, offering our customers the opportunity to make a personal contribution to the project and become part of its story. In recognition of their support, the names of all those who contribute through the purchase of a Jéroboam will be inscribed on a dedicated tag installed at the park, creating a lasting connection between each supporter and the landscape they have helped to restore.

The route will feature targeted improvements to the park’s green infrastructure, using native, drought-resistant species that complement the surrounding agricultural and natural landscape. New planting will provide shaded areas and places to rest, creating a more welcoming and immersive experience.
Starting at the Case del Viaggiatore, the route leads to the monumental complexes and Antiquarium at Baglio Florio. Work is already underway, with the sites being cleared and planting areas prepared.
The vision is to create a productive garden rather than a purely ornamental one, reflecting how a local farmer might have cultivated the land, while preserving the character and biodiversity of this unique landscape.

Through this initiative, Planeta is linking its 30th Chardonnay harvest to a broader commitment to landscape, biodiversity, cultural heritage and community, transforming part of the proceeds from the anniversary wine into a lasting contribution to one of Sicily’s most important archaeological and natural landscapes.
