Champagne Cattier is one of the rare independent family-owned houses that combines deep-rooted history, meticulous vineyard practice and gastronomic-ready wines — all wrapped in the elegance and precision that define great Champagne. From January 2026, Champagne Cattier will be brought exclusively to UK on-trade customers by Enotria, offering buyers and sommeliers an exceptional opportunity to elevate their sparkling wine lists with a genuine house of distinction, heritage and excellence.

The Cattier legacy dates back to 1625, when the family first began tending vines in Chigny-les-Roses, in the northern part of the Montagne de Reims. While the vineyards were cultivated by successive generations, it was Jean Cattier’s decision to vinify and bottle his own wines in 1918, in the aftermath of the First World War, that marked the true birth of Champagne Cattier as a house.

Today, the estate remains fully independent and family-owned, with Alexandre Cattier representing the 13th generation at the helm alongside his cousins Agathe and Marie. Jean-Jacques Cattier, now 81, remains a respected presence at the estate, embodying the continuity of a lineage where knowledge and values are passed from one generation to the next.
Cattier’s vineyards extend across approximately 33 hectares in three highly regarded Premier Cru villages: Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes and Rilly-la-Montagne. Defined by chalk and clay soils, this exceptional terroir gives the house its signature balance of richness and freshness, minerality and length. As a reminder, Cattier does not integrate wood in their blends to preserve the purity.

Among these holdings lies one of Champagne’s rarest treasures: Clos du Moulin, a historic 2.2-hectare walled vineyard acquired by the family in 1950. Following the meticulous restoration of this long-neglected site, Cattier released its first single-vineyard Champagne in 1955.
Today, Clos du Moulin Brut and Rosé are crafted from a base vintage, blended with multiple reserve vintages sourced exclusively from the Clos, forming a perpetual reserve dating back to the mid-1950s. The wines undergo more than eight years of cellar ageing, resting over 30 metres underground. Unique in both history and conception, Clos du Moulin stands as a singular expression of Champagne heritage and Clos Culture.
Deep beneath the family estate in Rilly-la-Montagne lie Cattier’s historic chalk cellars, descending 30 metres underground and carved across three architectural eras: Romanesque & Gothic these ancient galleries provide ideal natural conditions for slow, steady maturation on lees. As a result, the multi-vintages Champagnes spend more than three years on the lees (well beyond the legal minimum) while prestige cuvées age for significantly longer, with vintage wines resting up to eight years in the cellars.

Winemaking is overseen by Alexandre Cattier, an Avize-trained oenologist who combines generations of family knowledge with a modern touch, terroir-focused approach driven by precision and purity. A high proportion of reserve wines, typically 30–40%, and drawn from the previous ten vintages only are used to ensure both stylistic consistency and layered complexity from year to year.
Cattier’s blend of historic pedigree, terroir clarity and approachable style makes it a great fit for Enotria’s portfolio as it speak directly to on-trade needs:
